Six aircraft are fighting a fire that started "with great intensity" on the afternoon of this Wednesday, July 12, near São Marcos da Serra, in the municipality of Silves.

There are also 119 operators on site, supported by 34 vehicles.

The alert was given at 15:43 pm.

In statements to the Sul Informação, a source from the Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command said that the fire is consuming an “area of bush and pine forest”.

"The flames develop in a valley, which is difficult to access", he added. The wind, which «blows moderately», is one of the obstacles.

In the area there is “some dispersed housing”, but the flames do not threaten the houses yet.

The southern railway line also passes close by, but for the time being, there is no cut in circulation.

National Road 267, which connects São Marcos da Serra to the municipality of Monchique, is closed to traffic.
