Ferragudo lifeguard helps to beach a Dutch sailboat in Ria de Alvor

Operation coordinated by the Navy, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center

The sailboat «Stravaig», flying the flag of the Netherlands, which ran aground last night in the Ria de Alvor, was assisted by the lifeguard from Ferragudo, in an operation coordinated by the Navy, through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center ( MRCC Lisbon).

According to the Navy, on board the 12-meter sailboat were its two crew members, who were never in danger of their lives.

After having received a distress call at 21:58 pm, via the 112.pt platform and via radio, the MRCC contacted the Port Captain of Portimão, who sent the vessel from the Ferragudo Lifeguard Station to the location, which managed to unravel the sailboat.

After checking the safety conditions of the vessel, the members of the lifeguard accompanied the sailboat to the exit of the Alvor bar.
