PSP launches campaign “Say NO to animal abandonment”

PSP stresses that the abandonment of animals is a crime, punishable by a fine of up to 60 days or imprisonment for up to six months.

The Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the PSP launched on Wednesday the campaign “Say NO to the abandonment of animals” aimed at companion animals and at a time of holidays, a period in which this crime has a significant increase.

The campaign aims to alert the entire community to the problem of abandonment, to raise awareness of pet care, says the Public Security Police (PSP).

“With the campaign, which will be entirely disseminated on the different platforms/social networks available to the Lisbon PSP, we hope to reach the greatest number of people through the power of information proliferation – visualization and sharing – between the organization and the public”, underlines the police.

PSP says that the strategy involves a combination of images and short, clear and concise messages, in order to quickly capture attention and cause a greater impact with this awareness campaign”.

The campaign, according to the police, was built under the “NO” pillar, present in all messages, with the purpose of calling for an end to the abandonment of animals.

In the note, PSP reminds people of the alternatives they can use if they go on vacation: asking a trusted family member, friend or neighbor who can take care of the animal, resorting to a hotel for dogs and cats, 'Pet Sitting' at home and animal shelters.

The PSP emphasizes that the abandonment of animals is a crime, punishable by a fine of up to 60 days or imprisonment for up to six months.
