Giving training in the production of olive paste, dehydrated products, jams, jellies, preserves and confectionery, using what is local as raw material, was the objective of the two initiatives to value endogenous products, which took place at the Professional School Cândido Guerreiro and in Salir's Shared Kitchen.
The activities, organized by the Cooperativa Escola Profissional de Alte, took place under the “Vitalizar” project, promoted by the Municipality of Loulé and funded by CRESC Algarve 2020.
«Valuing local products, those that are adapted to our climate and, consequently, are more resilient to ongoing climate change, implies boosting and supporting the conditions for their production and transformation, in order to increase the income of those who produce them and transforms, generating economic activity, employment and keeping the rural area alive and active», says the Municipality of Loulé.
This constitutes «a way of bringing producers closer to consumers and local trade, reinforcing the autonomy and sustainability of communities, thus stimulating the economy of proximity.
The Shared Kitchen of Salir, an infrastructure of the Municipality of Loulé, also financed by PADRE, to stimulate and support those who want to transform products, aiming at commercialization, is already in operation, “but it will be able to accommodate more interested parties”, says the municipality.

The Professional School Cândido Guerreiro, in Alte, pre-registration is open for the Professional Course of Food Processing and Quality Technician, an opportunity for young people to acquire knowledge that will allow them to work in the food area or create their own job.
«Only the articulated and cooperative work between people and entities will be able to face the problems of the present, valuing and using in a sustainable way the resources that we have and the knowledge that it is important to preserve and develop», consider those responsible for the Municipality of Loulé.
