The “Youth for the Environment” program has already started in Castro Marim and will last until August 18th.

The objective is to “actively care for and enhance public space and heritage”, says the City Council.

In addition to intervening and cleaning public spaces, “young people for the environment” participate in environmental awareness actions in the area of water saving, waste recycling, blue flag surveys and geolocation of containers.

Other areas of activity are the collaboration with the Intermunicipal Kennel/Gatery, as a way of promoting volunteering and raising awareness of animal abandonment, and the development of actions within the scope of preserving biodiversity, namely related to the Nature Reserve and the issue of lack of water.

In this edition, the program will also work on the recovery and enhancement of practices that are part of the natural and cultural heritage of the territory and that have fallen into disuse but are more sustainable, such as the use of lime to paint houses. The first of these whitewashing actions will take place in Odeleite, on the 28th of July.

Blue carbon is another of the highlights of the 3rd edition.

The “Young People for the Environment” runs until the 18th of August and guarantees the attribution of a weekly grant, as well as insurance against personal accidents.
