The Parish Council of Ferragudo returns this year to join the project "There is UV on the Beach", which aims to inform bathers, through visual representations and large-scale flags, of the degree of intensity of the ultraviolet index, throughout the day , and the measures to be adopted.
Maintaining collaboration with the concessionaire of Praia Grande de Ferragudo, Mar Calmo, from Vasco Rica, the project was reinforced with a outdoor Large information board at the entrance to the beach and with more visible pictograms so that those arriving are aware of the different UV index scales and the behavior to adopt for each one.
The degree of intensity of ultraviolet rays have internationally standardized colors adopted by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere.
Technology is also part of the project, as it allows the values to be known by the concession and allows bathers to download an application for smartphones, created by this project, through which the data of the UV index, measured in real time at the school meteorological station of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes grouping of schools.
The application is available on Google's virtual store or through a 'QR Code' present in outdoors installed on adherent beaches.
The next challenge will be, according to the parish, to take the project to all the beaches of Ferragudo, as well as to place the application on the IOS platform, for which the Board has already launched the challenge to the grouping of Manuel Teixeira Gomes schools, mentors of this project , created by a group of teachers from the areas of geography, visual arts and information technology.
The project is implemented in Alvor, Praia da Rocha, Vau and Praia Grande.
