The rural fire-fighting device is today reinforced as it enters its maximum capacity, with 13.891 operators, 3.084 teams, 2.990 vehicles and 67 air assets being on standby.

The National Operational Directive (DON), which establishes the Special Device for Combating Rural Fires (DECIR) for this year, indicates that the means are reinforced today for the third time this year with the entry into force of the so-called 'reinforced - Delta level' , which ends on September 30th.

In the next three months, 13.891 operators, 2.084 teams and 2.990 vehicles will be operational.

This year's DECIR points to this period, which is considered the most critical, 72 air assets, but the Air Force has had difficulty in hiring these assets due to the lack of aircraft on the market due to the war in Ukraine.

At the moment. 67 aircraft are operational, six more than in the same period of 2022, but there are still five aircraft to reach the goal set for this year in DECIR.

According to DON, the number of operatives involved this year in the rural firefighting device increased by 7,5% compared to 2022, with 974 more elements on the ground.

Of the total number of operators involved, the largest number belongs to firefighters (7.749), of which 3.449 are from the Permanent Intervention Teams, followed by the ICNF (2.465), the GNR (1.784) and the Civil Protection Special Force (221).

Provisional data from the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) indicate that, since the beginning of the year, almost 4.000 rural fires have broken out, which have consumed around 8.800 hectares, 66% of which refer to brushwood, 30% to forest stands and 5% to agricultural land.

In the same period of 2022, 4.630 fires had already occurred.
