Autodromo do Algarve hosts double round of European Le Mans Series

These will be «two four-hour races separated by less than 48 hours that will, with all certainty, make many thousands vibrate»

The Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will host, from the 20th to the 22nd of October, a double round of the European Le Mans Series, the last two races on this year’s competition calendar.

For the seventh time in history, the Algarve circuit will host this series «which will put on the paddock the teams that entered the 42 cars that make up the permanent squad of the championship, divided between LMP2, LMP3 and LMGTE».

According to the Autódromo, these will be «two four-hour races separated by less than 48 hours that will, with all certainty, thrill the many thousands of spectators expected in the stands».

Also part of this weekend's official program are three international series: the Le Mans CUP, the Ligier European Series, as well as the final of the Radical World Series.

«For us, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, receiving the ELMS is like bringing a part of our family together for a very special weekend. The passion that motivates us is common to everyone involved in the ELMS and that is how we welcome all the championship's followers, drivers, teams and companions», says Paulo Pinheiro, CEO of the Autódromo.

«We are very happy to, once again, have these fantastic starting grids on our 'roller coaster', with several Portuguese drivers and teams fighting for the final victories», he adds.

This year is also marked by the 15th anniversary of the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve and this new visit by the ELMS on its asphalt will be special, a competition where in 2018 Filipe Albuquerque climbed to the highest step of the podium to be, so far, the only Portuguese member of the winning team in absolute terms.

In 2023, there will be other Portuguese: Manuel Espírito Santo and Pedro Perino, with Miguel Cristóvão, in the ELMS, Bernardo Pinheiro, in the Ligier European Series and the Algarve Pro Racing team in the LPM2 class, of the European Le Mans will, once again, be candidates for victories and a place on the podium.
