Algar asks merchants to adhere to door-to-door collection to alleviate ecopoints

The “Algarlinha” service is free

The company Algar promoted a campaign among potential customers that aims to raise awareness among traders and convince them to join the “Algarlinha” service, which collects recyclable waste door-to-door.

The initiative “The ecopoint is for the citizen, Algarlinha is for commerce, services and restaurants” is an initiative carried out with the support of Sociedade Ponto Verde, in the 16 municipalities of the Algarve region, at commercial establishments.

According to Algar, the “Algarlinha” service «offers the best solution to guarantee and facilitate the task of recycling in commercial establishments. The service is free, includes the delivery of bags for the separation and collection, door-to-door, of glass, paper/cardboard and plastic/metal packaging, freeing up ecopoints for the population».

Even so, of the 3.786 establishments visited as part of the campaign, «580 preferred to continue using the ecopoint and only 190 joined the Algar service».

«The quantity of material produced in commerce, (especially in the HORECA channel), results in a strong contribution to the recycling targets, so special attention should be given to this sector«, illustrates Algar.

But the reluctance of commercial establishments to join this campaign also «compromises the ability to containerize the ecopoints that are intended for domestic production», that is, it overloads the ecopoints and exacerbates the often criticized inability of Algar to respond, in the timely collection waste.

«Algar collected video testimonials from various customers of the collection service in commerce, in each of the 16 municipalities, to share their experiences and publicize the company's initiative, inviting other establishments to join and adhere to the collection service, free, door-to-door, to release and optimize existing equipment and infrastructure on the public road, namely, the ecopoints that are intended for the population», informs Algar.
