Olhão resumes celebrations of the Parish's 325th anniversary

The celebrations of the 325th anniversary of the Parish of Olhão resume this Saturday, July 1st, after a forced interruption in 2020. 

At 18 pm, at the Municipal Museum, the launch of the catalog “Collection of Sacred Art and Inventory of the Archive of the Parish of Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Olhão” takes place, followed by, at 30 pm, in the Mother Church, a cantata by the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra, in honor of the patron saint, Nossa Senhora da Conceição.

The 325 years of devotion to Nossa Senhora do Rosário had already been marked with two exhibitions – on Avenida da República and at the Municipal Museum – the result of the joint work of the Municipal Archive, the Museum and the parish itself.

At the Museum, the exhibition is still on display and brings together a set of pieces, ranging from ex-vows to vestments, including sacred art, which are part of the parish’s collection and which were the subject of an inventory, investigation and restoration work. meticulous by the technicians of the Museum.

The result of this work of collecting and inventorying the parish's documentary collection and restoring the heritage is now evident in the catalog that will be launched this Saturday.

The commemorations of the 325th anniversary of the Parish of Olhão end at the Igreja Matriz, at 21 pm, with a cantata for soloists, choir and orchestra.

Under the baton of Father António Cartageno, the Portuguese Philharmonic Orchestra accompanies the Coral Vozes d'Arte, the Coral Vozes da Vidigueira, the Coro do Carmo de Beja and the Choir of the Cathedral of Lisbon, with more than 100 voices, to which are added soloists Vera Saldanha, Laura Lameira and Jaime Branco.
