Maria João Cantinho presents the book “Cosmopolitismo e rêverie” in Portimão

Edited by “The Poets and Dragons Society”, the work brings together a set of essays on Walter Benjamin, Hermann Broch, Paul Celan and Lou Andréas-Salomé

The book “Cosmopolitismo e rêverie”, by Maria João Cantinho, will be presented on the 24th of June, starting at 18 pm, in the outer courtyard of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Library, in Portimão. 

Edited by “The Poets and Dragons Society”, the work brings together a set of essays on Walter Benjamin, Hermann Broch, Paul Celan and Lou Andréas-Salomé.

Maria João Cantinho was born in 1963 in the city of Lisbon, with a PhD in Philosophy, teacher, literary critic and essayist, with regular collaborations in publications such as “Jornal de Letras” and “Colóquio-Letras”, among others.

Executive editor of the online magazine Caliban, she is an integrated member of the Philosophy Center of the Lisbon Faculty of Letters and an associate member of the Collège d'Études Juives et de Philosophie Contemporaine, in addition to being a member of the board of the Portuguese Pen Club, of the APE - Associação Portuguesa de Writers and APCL – Portuguese Association of Literary Critics.

The author has participated in several festivals and internationally, highlighting the vast work published titles such as "Wings of Saturno", "Do ínfimo" (awarded with the Glória de Sant'Anna and Escopro e Luz prize in 2020), "O Anjo Melancholy: The Concept of Allegory in the Work of Walter Benjamin”, “Walter Benjamin: Melancholy and Revolution” (awarded the PEN Ensaio 2020 Prize), “The Dance of Metamorphosis”, “Walter Benjamin: Messianism and Revolution” and “Cosmopolitanism and Rêverie ”, now on display at the Municipal Library of Portimão.
