The EB2,3 Engº Duarte Pacheco School, in Loulé, will be expanded in an area of 900 square meters, a work that will mean an investment of 1,5 million euros and will have an execution period of 18 months.

The consignment document for the expansion of this Loulé school was signed on the morning of this Friday, June 23, and «is intended to contribute to the response to the increase in the school population that has been registered in the municipality of Loulé».

According to the municipality, the works will allow the creation of seven new classrooms and the upgrading of two existing ones. On the other hand, new spaces will be created, such as a pedagogical/CEF training kitchen with a dining room, and a new space to receive parents and guardians, as Carlos Fernandes, head of the group, said. In addition, it is planned to reformulate the exterior arrangements around the expansion and to implement a photovoltaic production system for self-consumption on the roof.

The EB 2,3 Engº Duarte Pacheco School is home to a group made up of 11 schools, and a new teaching establishment is planned soon – EB1 Hortas de Santo António 2 -, with over 7 classrooms for the 1st cycle and pre-school. school.

«The building was refurbished in 2002/03 but the number of students has grown sharply, currently around 787 students, from practically all parishes in the municipality but also from neighboring municipalities such as São Brás de Alportel, Faro and Albufeira», reveals the Câmara de Loulé in a note.

On the other hand, many of these students attend the Conservatório de Música de Loulé, under the existing protocol between the two entities.

«We have had a shortage of rooms for a long time, but, thanks to the Loulé Council, we have had monoblocks placed that allow us to use more spaces because the population has actually grown every year», stressed director Carlos Fernandes.

In turn, Analídio Ponte, president of the Parish Council of São Sebastião, referred to the happiness of having in this parish another work of a school.

«Duarte Pacheco was a remarkable figure with regard to investment and public works and I hope that this school will also continue to be significant in the lives of our young people, of their parents», he said, highlighting the fact that this is a parish with «very good for an excellent educational process».

The Mayor, in turn, stated that with this work, the Municipality intends to meet the needs of families residing in Loulé, as well as to better welcome people from other countries, in their integration process, which also includes the educational offer. , along with the housing issue.

In view of the inconveniences they will be subject to during the course of the work, the mayor of Loulé challenged the school community to use these constraints to the benefit of teaching itself, "making this a theme of the classes".

«It's life itself that enters the school's door and maybe it would be a good reason to explain what a project is, how to build a city... », left Vítor Aleixo in the air.
