Portuguese Nurses Union announces strike for May 12

The strike, which marks International Nurses Day, will take place between 8:00 am and 24:00 am

The Union of Portuguese Nurses (SEP) announced today a strike for Friday accompanied by a rally in front of the Ministry of Health to demand better working conditions and the hiring of more professionals.

The strike, which marks International Nurses Day, will take place between 8 am and 00 am.

The concentration, which will be attended by union delegates, leaders and activists, is scheduled for 11:00 am in front of the Ministry of Health, advanced the president of the SEP, José Carlos Martins, in a press conference at the union headquarters on Avenida 24th of July, in Lisbon.

The stoppage is due to the worsening of working conditions with the increase in the use of overtime work and the consequent fatigue of nurses, and it is expected that the forms of struggle will intensify, he added.
