Portimão supports 3 animal defense associations with 40 thousand euros

Support is given for the sterilization of stray dogs and cats

The Municipality of Portimão will support three animal defense associations with 40 thousand euros for the sterilization of stray dogs and cats. 

The collaboration protocols were signed this Friday, May 12, with ADAP – Portimão Animal Defense Association, APAA – Algarve Animal Protection Association and AACP – Portimão Kennel Friends Association.

«This municipal strategy arises from the recognition of the effort made by those associations at the level of public interest, namely with regard to the promotion of awareness campaigns and the encouragement of sterilization, aiming to reduce the excess of stray animals and, thus, contribute to safeguarding of the health and environmental quality of populations», says the Municipality of Portimão in a note.

With regard to the AACP, the sum of 15 thousand euros now filed is intended for the acquisition of essential goods or services for the campaign in the field of animal protection, with the sterilization of dogs and cats entering the municipal kennel being foreseen. .

As for the financial contribution destined to ADAP, in the amount of 10 thousand euros, it also applies to the acquisition of essential goods or services to carry out the campaign in the field of animal protection, foreseeing the sterilization of 100 animals that proliferate in various places of the city.

In turn, the collaboration agreement with APAA involves a sum of 10 thousand euros for the acquisition of essential goods or services for the campaign in the field of animal protection, foreseeing the sterilization of 200 stray dogs and cats, the plus 5 thousand euros for feeding animals residing in colonies identified by the Municipality of Portimão.

The protocols were signed by Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, and by representatives of the beneficiary associations: Mónica Alexandra Vitela (ADAP), Patricia Nieuwe (AACP) and Jennifer Clarke (APAA).
