Municipality of Albufeira marks Dia da Espiga with intergenerational socializing

Date was marked with activities from Clube Avô and Centro Educativo do Cerro d`Ouro

 

Ascension Thursday, or Espiga Day, was marked by the Municipality of Albufeira, through Clube Avô and Centro Educativo do Cerro d`Ouro, with an initiative that brought together young and old in an intergenerational get-together aimed at celebrating traditions. 

Cláudia Guedelha, councilor responsible for Social Action and Education in the Municipality of Albufeira, made a point of recalling that «Day of the Spike symbolizes prosperity and, therefore, people place the branch behind the main door of the house so that nothing in it miss. which contains a strong symbolism, especially in these times of enormous challenges and difficulties for families».

After a walk and harvesting of the ear, the opening of the workshops began, where adults and children prepared the branches and participated in the different programmed activities, with emphasis on the involvement of the little ones in the corner of the beekeepers and aromatic herbs, participation in tasks related to the carob production and harvesting cycle, making carob biscuits, kneading and tasting bread and visiting the various areas of the Cerro d`Ouro Educational Center (School of yesteryear, exhibition and workshops).

The program also included performances by students of teacher Ana Lúcia Silva, with “Danças do Mundo”, and students of teacher Ana Rita Arvela, with Grupo de Cantares, both from Clube Avô de Albufeira, Tuna from Academia do Saber de Quarteira and the Coral Group AIMA – Albufeira Adult Academy.

The Municipality of Albufeira also highlights the participation of two groups of students from the 1st cycle of the EB1 of Fontainhas and two groups from the Kindergarten on Avenida do Ténis.
