Eurovision final is played today and Portugal is among the competitors

The three favorites to win this year's contest are Sweden, Finland and Ukraine

The final of the 67th Eurovision Song Contest is played today in Liverpool, United Kingdom, by 26 countries, including Portugal, with Sweden, Finland and Ukraine as favorites for victory.

The 26 countries competing are, in order of appearance: Austria, Portugal, Switzerland, Poland, Serbia, France, Cyprus, Spain, Sweden, Albania, Italy, Estonia, Finland, Czech Republic, Australia, Belgium, Armenia, Moldova, Ukraine , Norway, Germany, Lithuania, Israel, Slovenia, Croatia and the United Kingdom.

According to the average of several bookmakers, calculated by the 'site' eurovisionworld.com, specialized in the contest, the three favorites to win the contest this year are Sweden, Finland and Ukraine.

In recent weeks, Sweden, which competes with the theme “Tatoo”, by Loreen, a singer who in 2012 won the Eurovision Song Contest with “Euphoria”, has always emerged in the first place in the preferences of bettors.

Portugal appears far from the podium. At 18:00 on Friday, the Portuguese song “Ai Coração”, by Mimicat, appeared in 24th place. Since the Portuguese representative was chosen, in March at the Festival da Canção, Portugal has occupied between 20th and 26th place in the preferences of bettors.

Portugal participated for the first time in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1964, having however missed five editions (in 1970, 2000, 2002, 2013 and 2016).

Last year, Ukraine was the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest, with “Stefania” by the Kalush Orchestra.

For this reason, Ukraine was supposed to host the competition this year, but the war that ravages the country ended up leading the organization to decide that the United Kingdom, in second place, would be the host country.

Ukraine's victory was essentially due to the popular vote. The country, which had been invaded by Russia months earlier, won a total of 631 votes, 439 of them by public vote.

In 2022, Portugal participated in the Eurovision Song Contest with “Saudade, saudade”, by Maro, which reached 9th place in the contest. In 2017, he won the contest for the first and only time with the song “Amar pelo dois”, by Luísa Sobral, performed by Salvador Sobral.

The final of the Eurovision Song Contest is shown live on RTP1 from 20:00 in Lisbon.
