«Get to know the flora of Apaslgarve» is the first of seven proposals for another cycle of pedestrian walks “Passos Contados”, which will show the landscape in Cacela and Vila Real de Santo António from April 16th until November.

On the 16th, a Sunday, from 15 pm, a tour departs from Cacela Velha «about the flora in the Algarve guided by collaborators of the Herbarium of the University of the Algarve», guided by the curator of this unit, the biologist Manuela David.

This will be one of the seven walks in this 16th edition of the “Passos Contados” initiative, organized by the Cacela Heritage Research and Information Center and the VRSA Chamber, which «propose new experiences in the interpretation and decoding of cultural landscapes, their natural values and heritage elements, in the eastern Algarve».

The cycle of walks continues in May with a walk that will lead to «discovering the uses of cane, from the utilitarian to the recreational, with artisan Domingos Romeira Vaz» (May 14th).

On the 3rd of June, the organization proposes «an end of the day in the salt harvest with the salt producer Jorge Raiado and salt workers», with product tasting, on the 27th of August there will be «a walk at dawn over the fig in the Algarve, from the tree to the smokehouse with producer João Sol» and in September the focus will be on the Marquês de Pombal and the "Drawing and stucco class" in Vila Real de Santo António, on a tour guided by the architect Marta Santos, on the 17th.

The penultimate tour is scheduled for October 15, the day for which «a long journey from the fossiliferous deposit of Cacela with the geologist Hélder Pereira» is scheduled.

«We finish in November [the 5th] with a journey that will take us to prehistory, between the living and the dead, starting from the megalithic tomb of Santa Rita with the archaeologist Nuno Inácio», conclude the organizers of the event.

Entries can be made at the Heritage Research and Information Center of Cacela, at the former Santa Rita Primary School, or through the contacts 281 952600 and [email protected].
