Bloco de Esquerda criticizes that it becomes “easier to evict tenants”

The newspaper Público reported today that “tenants who are evicted will now have a period of 30 days to leave the housing”

BE coordinator Catarina Martins today criticized the Government's proposals for the More Housing package, noting that it is "easier to evict tenants" and that there are no measures to "lower house prices".

“A concrete mechanism that is known is to make it easier for tenants to evict, and there is no single measure to lower house prices, which are among the highest in the world”, said Catarina Martins today at Cinema Trindade, in Porto.

The Público newspaper reported today that “tenants who are evicted will now have a period of 30 days to leave the dwellings from the moment the eviction request presented by the landlord is approved”, something that appears in the bill Government of the More Housing package, which entered parliament on Friday.

Speaking to journalists at the press conference to present the Desobedoc festival, which will take place between April 28 and May 01, in reaction to the measures, the head of BE considered that price control mechanisms should exist.

“Without rent control, and without putting an end to the privilege regimes that feed real estate funds and the purchase of houses by those who do not live and do not want to live in Portugal, it will not be possible to have houses at prices that the people who work here can afford. pay”, noted Catarina Martins.

The BE coordinator also considered that during the period of public discussion of housing measures, "the Government created a smokescreen by putting the whole country to discuss local housing or coercive lease".

“These are measures that, in fact, even if they appear symbolically written, we already know that they are not to be taken seriously, there is no concrete mechanism”, considered Catarina Martins.

For the BE deputy, “either there are clear measures to control rental prices, or to control house prices, or we will continue to have a housing market that does not serve those who have a salary or pension in Portugal”.

“BE will not fail to take fundamental measures and alternatives to those of the Government to parliament, such as rent control or a ban on the sale of property to those who do not reside in Portugal”, he also told journalists.

The Government's proposals for the Mais Habitação package still have to be discussed and voted on.
