More than one million counterfeit or pirated products seized in 2022

36% correspond to garments, 31% to pieces and parts that integrate and complement clothing and footwear products, 11% to perfumes and cosmetics and 7% to accessories

Four entities that make up the Anti-Counterfeiting Group (GAC) carried out, in the set of inspection actions, the seizure of 1.040.345 units of counterfeit or pirated products in 2022, it was announced today.

In a statement issued today, the GAC specifies that, of the total seizures, 36% correspond to garments (371.847), 31% to pieces and parts that integrate and complement clothing and footwear products (321.706), 11% to perfumes and cosmetics (115.687) and 7% to accessories (72.251).

The aforementioned four entities are the Authority for Food and Economic Security (ASAE), the Tax and Customs Authority (AT), the National Republican Guard (GNR) and the Public Security Police (PSP).

«With regard to the violation of copyright and related rights, the General Inspection of Cultural Activities (IGAC) ordered the removal/blocking of access to 165 domains that illegally made protected works and content available, mostly distributed by computer games (74), 'streaming' (46), press (16), books (15) and audiovisual (6). Within the scope of the illicit availability of protected content on the network in real time and, for a limited duration, the blocking of 1.308 domains was also determined», advances the GAC.

These data are part of the GAC's 2022 Activity Report, which was presented at the 16th GAC High Level meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the National Institute of Industrial Property (INPI), on March 30 and during which it was The Plan of Activities for 2023 was also drawn up, which provides for various joint initiatives to combat counterfeiting and raise awareness of this scourge, the statement said.

«The GAC is an inter-ministerial group that brings together entities with multidisciplinary competence in combating counterfeiting, whose mission is to strengthen cooperation, exchange statistical information on the seizure of counterfeit products, raise public awareness and reflect on the improvement of the national legal order to provide it with more effective mechanisms for the defense of industrial property rights», says the communiqué.

The GAC adds that the group is made up of public, private and civil society entities, specifically the ASAE, the AT, the INPI, the GNR, the Judiciary Police, the PSP, the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) , the Portuguese Association of Intellectual Property Consultants (ACPI) and the Portuguese Association for Consumer Protection (DECO).

The Regional Authority for Economic Activities of Madeira (ARAE), the International Chamber of Commerce (CCI), Centromarca, the Directorate General for Consumers (DGC), the IGAC, the Regional Inspection for Economic Activities of the Azores (IRAE) are also part of the group. ), the International Trademark Association (INTA), the Attorney General's Office (PGR), the SNB-React and the União de Marcas.
