“Saramago Literary Route in the Algarve” presented in Castro Marim

Inspired by the book by the Spanish writer Diego Mesa “Journey to the Algarve”

The “Saramago Literary Route in the Algarve”, inspired by the book by the Spanish writer Diego Mesa “Viagem ao Algarve” and illustrated by the work carried out by the association 1/4 Escuro – Associação de Fotógrafos Amateurs de Vila Real de Santo António, was presented this Monday- fair at the Castro Marim Library.

In his work, Diego Mesa revisited Saramago's route in the Algarve, taken from the Nobel Prize in Literature's “Journey to Portugal”, accounting for the similarities and differences that more than four decades necessarily implied.

Adriana Nogueira, regional director of Culture, Filomena Sintra, vice-president of the Municipality of Castro Marim, writer Diego Mesa, president of the board of Associação 1/4 Escuro and Conceição Pires, Portuguese teacher and lover of the work of Saramago.

With this initiative, the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve marks the Centenary of José Saramago and promotes the region as a literary destination.
