Ministry of Education proposes that teachers end vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th levels

The end of vacancies for these teachers is one of the main points of the Ministry of Education's proposal presented today to the teachers' unions

The Ministry of Education today proposed the end of vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th levels for all teachers who are currently between the 1st and 6th career levels.

The end of vacancies for these teachers is one of the main points of the Ministry of Education's proposal presented today to the teachers' unions during yet another negotiation meeting.

The Government proposes to “recover the time in which teachers were waiting for a vacancy in the fourth and sixth levels from the year of thawing”, with “exemption of vacancies for access to the fifth and seventh levels for all teachers positioned between the first and sixth echelon.

The proposal from the Ministry of Education also mentions that there is now a “reduction of one year in the duration of the step for teachers who are in a step above the 6th and who have not been waiting for a vacancy for access to the 5th and 7th. th echelons”.

“This is only for teachers in office since August 30, 2005 and with nine years, four months and 18 days of freeze and who meet the requirements for progression (i.e. those who went through the two freeze periods – between 2005 and 2007 and then between 2011 and 2017)”, according to the Ministry of Education.

The Minister of Education has already announced that the measures presented to the unions on the end of vacancies for access to the 5th and 7th levels of the teaching career will cover "immediately 60 teachers".

“The proposal that we are presenting today to the union organizations aims to accelerate the career of these teachers who saw their careers more harmed by the effect of the freeze. It is a proposal that adds to the solution that we have already presented for the 'deprecariousness' of contract teachers. We are looking at the segment of the most affected teachers”, João Costa told journalists, at the end of another meeting of negotiations with the teachers unions.

The minister said that these measures "will immediately cover 60 teachers, in addition to those affected by precariousness".
