Lights go out again in Loulé for the benefit of the Planet

This year, “Earth Hour” has the theme “Food” and the concept “Disconnect. Dedicate an hour to the planet

The Municipality of Loulé is once again one of the points on the globe where the lights will go out, in a symbolic moment of reflection on climate change, between 20:30 and 21:30 on the 25th of March.

This Autarchy thus once again associates itself with “Earth Hour”, an environmental action promoted internationally by the global nature conservation organization Associação Natureza Portugal |World Wildlife Found (WWF).

This year, “Earth Hour” has the theme “Food” and the concept “Disconnect. Dedicates an hour to the planet", intending to "regain the power of citizens around the world to better respond to the impacts of climate change, considered one of the greatest environmental, social, economic and even health challenges that the Planet faces, with the worsening and greater frequency of the occurrence of extreme weather events».

At a local level, the Municipality of Loulé undertakes to turn off the lights in several buildings and public spaces in the county for 60 minutes: Town Hall, Building Eng.º Duarte Pacheco/Municipal Assembly, Monument Eng.º Duarte Pacheco, Municipal Market de Loulé, Cineteatro Louletano, Wall of the Castle of Loulé, Municipality Center of Quarteira and buildings of the parish councils of S. Sebastião, S. Clemente, Quarteira, Almancil, Salir, Querença, Tôr, Benafim, Boliqueime, Alte and Ameixial.

“Earth Hour” kicked off in 2007 in Australia, when 2,2 million people and more than 2 businesses turned off their lights for an hour in a climate action position.
