Isabel Palmeirim resigns once and for all as director of the Faculty of Medicine and accuses CHUA

Isabel Palmeirim's resignation has already been accepted by the rector of the University of Algarve

This time, guarantees Isabel Palmeirim, the decision is «irrevocable». The director of the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences of the University of Algarve (UAlg) and of the Integrated Master in Medicine resigned from her post for the second time, and points the finger at the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA) which "has not changed attitude". 

The decision was communicated to the academic community this Friday, March 31, in an email to which the Sul Informação had access.

Contacted by our newspaper, Isabel Palmeirim complained that the CHUA continues to «not proceed with the accreditation of services», which has a «very negative impact on the medical course, leading students to have to go to other hospitals». Most are currently interning at the Garcia de Orta Hospital, in Almada.

When he resigned, in August, following an anonymous letter from students, the director of the Faculty of Medicine ended up remaining in office, with the «hope that something would change», on the part of the CHUA.

"Did not happen. There is still no communication with this Board of Directors. Therefore, it is not clear what the basic reasoning behind the creation of this competition is – to retain professionals – and I stopped realizing what I am doing here», he lamented.

O Sul Informação he also spoke with Paulo Neves, member of the Board of Directors of CHUA, who referred to the new resignation of Isabel Palmeirim as "a completely reheated subject".

Asked whether or not the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve has accredited services, he said that this is a "closed matter", on which "accounts have already been rendered" in the Assembly of the Republic.

«It is not in this context that we are going to retort anything. If we talk it's about our house, not about another. I'll talk about mine when I think it's time and, on that matter, I'm not thinking that we're conditioning anyone», said Paulo Neves.

As for Isabel Palmeirim's resignation, it has already been accepted by the rector of the University of Algarve.
