Portuguese Cup of Acrobatic Gymnastics disputed in Albufeira

Acro Al-Buhera, Clube de Ginástica de Albufeira, is one of the co-organisers

The Portuguese Acrobatic Gymnastics Cup will take place next weekend, 25th and 26th February, at the Sports Pavilion in Albufeira. 

The initiative will bring together 24 clubs from various parts of the country, in a total of 502 athletes in competition, which will be joined by 72 coaches and 24 delegates.

On Saturday (25), the beginning of the competition is scheduled for 9:00 am, and the end is scheduled for 21:00. This is followed by the protocol ceremony with the awarding of prizes. On the second day, Sunday (26), the start of the competitions is scheduled for the same time, but the competition ends earlier, around 18 pm, with the closure of the Portuguese Cup of Acrobatic Gymnastics being marked by the award ceremony and the climb to the podium of the best athletes.

For José Carlos Rolo, Mayor of Albufeira, he says that it is «an honor for the Municipality to host sporting events of this competitive level, which confirms that Albufeira has all the conditions to be a European City of Sport in 2026».

In turn, Cristiano Cabrita, vice-president of the Chamber in charge of Sports and Youth, highlights «the contribution of sport to the integral development of children and young people in the municipality, both in terms of training and in terms of competition, being one more -value for current and future generations».

Acro Al-Buhera, a gym in Albufeira, is one of the co-organisers.

The club, which was born on July 4, 2017, has around 200 athletes, spread over six classes, one training, two initiation, two competition and one adapted gymnastics.

ACRO already has an enviable record: 1st place in men's pairs in the National Base Championship – Loures (April 28th and 29th, 2018) won by Tomás Alves/Martim Martins and 4th place in the senior division, female groups of the said Championship by Tatiana Pereira/Bárbara Cabral/Matilde Mateus, 3rd place in women's pairs at the Portuguese Cup – Loures (23 and 24 February 2019) by Alicia Santos/Diana Teixeira, in the same competition 1st place in men's pairs went to Rodrigo Grilo/Martim Martins .

In the 2019 Portuguese Cup, in Juveniles there was also a 4th place in female groups attributed to Carolina Guerreiro/Catarina Alves/Emma Gomes, an 8th place in Juniors – female groups for Carolina Mateus/Rita Guerreiro, and in the classification by teams the club ranked 5th.

In the National Championship of the 1st Division in Anadia (July 24, 2021), in the senior level 1st Division in Women's Groups, the Acro Al-Buhera athletes were in 9th place with Catarina Alves / Alicia Santos / Maria Trigo.

On July 17, 2021, in the National Base Championship, in the Juniors, Mixed Pairs, 1st place went to Rodrigo Grilo/Gabriela Guerreiro and in the Initiates, Women's Groups, 5th place was awarded to Érica Almeida/Luísa Carvalhal/Joana Simões .
