Pilgrimage to his grave pays homage to Mestre Manuel Cabanas

Master Manuel Cabanas, born in Vila Nova de Cacela, was a self-taught artist and opponent of the Regime

The Liga dos Amigos do Mestre Manuel Cabanas marked, this Saturday, February 11th, the 121st anniversary of the birth of Mestre Manuel Cabanas, with a homage ceremony.

The celebrations began at 10:00 am with a pilgrimage to Mestre's grave, in the Parochial Cemetery of Cacela Velha.

Master Manuel Cabanas, born in Vila Nova de Cacela, was a fighting man who stood out for his intense artistic activity in the field of drawing and wood engraving.

He was an opposition politician to the Estado Novo dictatorship and always exercised his citizenship in favor of freedoms and human dignity, having been considered one of the great national references of Democracy and Freedom.
