Portimonense fails to win in Guimarães

Algarve team was unable to turn the result around, but remains in 11th place

Portimonense lost this Saturday, February 11th, by 0-1, against Vitória Sport Clube, in a match for the 20th round of the I Liga, played at Estádio Afonso Henriques, in Guimarães.

The game, which began after a minute of silence was observed in memory of the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria, with the flags of both countries in the center of the pitch, had its high point, in the 22nd minute, when Jota Silva scored the only goal of the match, in favor of Guimarães. Incidentally, this same player had seen, three minutes earlier, a goal being annulled by VAR, due to the striker's irregular position.

But this time, everything went well, after a long ball from Varela, to the back of the defense, J. Silva gaining speed on Relvas and, in view of the departure of the goalkeeper from the Algarve, deflecting the ball with a blow from head to shoot for the deserted goal.

After another failure by J. Silva and a lukewarm phase in the game, the first half ended with a yellow card shown to Portimonense Pedrão.

The second half was marked by a lot of pressure from Portimonense, trying to get at least a draw, and many yellow cards, to players from both teams. But the victory remained for the…Victory.

It is the third consecutive victory for Vitória de Guimarães, who rose to fifth place, accessing European competitions, with 33 points, three more than Casa Pia, who have one game less, and than Arouca.

Portimonense, who suffered their fourth straight defeat in the league as a visitor, remain in 11th place, with 23 points.
