Maritime Police seize five illegal fishing gear in Tavira

Hand hooks were seized, but the shellfish gatherers who used them fled

Elements of the Tavira Maritime Police Local Command seized five fishing gears during an inspection action aimed at the capture of bivalves in Tavira.

During this action, stresses the Maritime Authority, "several shellfish gatherers were detected in full activity of capturing bivalves using fishing gear, called "hand hooks", without the proper licensing". These shellfish gatherers fled when they realized the arrival of the Maritime Police.

The respective notices were drawn up, with elements of the Maritime Police proceeding to collect and seize five fishing gears, as a precautionary measure.

In the course of this action, nine other shellfish gatherers were detected and inspected, for whom no irregularity was detected.

Seven members of the Local Command of the Maritime Police of Tavira participated in the operation, supported by a boat, two vehicles and two 4X4 motorcycles.
