On Valentine's Day, the invitation is to rekindle the flame of participatory citizenship

The results of the international project Communities Driving Change (CIVIC) will be presented tomorrow, February 14th, between 9:30 am and 13:00 pm, at the António Ramos Rosa Municipal Library, in Faro.

This is an international project, co-financed by the «Europe for Citizens» programme, which brings together four European cities, and will be the pretext for a conference on participatory citizenship that have much to add on this theme in full effervescence these days. .

The CIVIC project started in 2021, its objective being to listen and give greater visibility to citizens' opinions. It was held in four European cities: Faro (Portugal), Kaunas (Lithuania), Salonica (Greece) and Timisoara (Romania), under the coordination of Contextos – Cooperative for Development and Social Cohesion.

The program also highlights the moment of debate on Participatory Citizenship with guest speakers. Topics such as Participatory Budgeting, Horizon Europe, Regional Strategy 2030, Compassionate Communities, Economy and Finance will be at the center of the discussion.

It is the organization's objective that the assistance participate with their questions and reflections resulting from the debate.

Running since March 2021 and with an end date scheduled for April this year, the Communities Driving Change (CIVIC) is a project formed by an international consortium coordinated by the Portuguese organization Contexts, in conjunction with organizations from partner countries Aktyvus Jaunimas Association (Lithuania), United Societies of Balkans (Greece), and Asociatia Centrul Pentru Strategii de Dezvoltare a Tineretului (Romania).

The project carried out various activities in the four countries. From launch events with citizens and local political decision-makers, sessions for presenting, debating and sharing participation experiences and existing participation mechanisms to online questionnaires and face-to-face sessions for listening to the needs and desires of local populations and defining public causes and recommendations.

 

Creation of the Toolkit: «Why does participation matter? A guide to citizen engagement»

Based on the experiences and lessons learned from the Democracy Labs, the consortium produced a Toolkit “Why does participation matter? A guide to citizen engagement” available in English by clicking here.

A document with the Public Causes & Recommendations will be launched shortly, which brings together the proposals collected from the citizens of Faro, Portugal, resulting from the Gatherings of Opinions e Public Consultations performed locally; as well as a Public Causes & Recommendations document that compiles proposals from citizens of the 4 countries.

The results will be presented at local InfoSession events in different countries. In Faro, this is the conference «Let's Rekindle the Flame of Participatory Citizenship!?», on February 14, whose program is presented below.

The project will culminate in an International Conference in Thessaloniki, Greece, with participants from Portugal, Lithuania, Greece and Romania.
