UAlg researcher participates in new Antena 1 program on sustainable food

Antena1's program will be broadcast daily, at 14:40 pm, from the 6th to the 17th of February

A researcher from the University of Algarve is involved in the new program “The challenges of sustainable food”, which has the collaboration of this university, Lisbon and Nova de Lisboa, launched on the 6th of February by Antena 1.

It is a series of 10 episodes, lasting 8 to 10 minutes, which will be broadcast daily, at 14:40 pm, from the 6th to the 17th of February.

The new program by journalist Eduarda Maio will present ten research projects on sustainable food, focusing on the work of scientists in the search for solutions to improve our food and reduce waste from different industries.

«This program is an opportunity to make the Portuguese public aware of the backstage of scientific research processes on sustainable food in Portugal», says Ana Matias, researcher at the Center for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA) at UAlg.

«Eduarda Maio's reports bring us themes as diverse as sustainable aquaculture, the use of insects in human food or the use of milk residues in the production of fibers».

Also involved in the project are researchers Bruno Pinto, from the University of Lisbon, and António Granado, a professor at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

The three conceived the idea of the program and obtained funding for its production, through a competitive competition opened by the Science Communication Lab, from Munich, Germany.

In addition to podcasts, the project has a research component, which involves evaluating its effectiveness with young university students. This evaluation work will be carried out in the coming months at two Portuguese universities.

The programs can be heard on Antena or through the RTP Play website.
