Faro hosts Transfrontier Meeting dedicated to Cultural and Creative Industries

As part of the Magallanes_ICC project and part of the Alentejo/Algarve/Andalusia Cultural and Creative Industries Exhibition

A Cross-Border Meeting dedicated to the Cultural and Creative Industries will take place on the 24th of February, in Faro. The initiative, promoted by the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, is part of the Magallanes_ICC project and is part of the Alentejo/Algarve/Andalusia Cultural and Creative Industries Exhibition.

The purpose is to make known the activities that that Regional Directorate developed during that project, inspired by the circumnavigation trip of Fernão de Magalhães.

This Cross-Border Meeting, which will take place at the Municipal Library of Faro António Ramos Rosa, from 14:00 pm to 18:30 pm, will have the participation of several speakers, who will present the result of the work developed as part of their participation in the Magallanes_ICC project, which focused on the potential of historical research, particularly associated with cultural heritage , as a basis for stimulating creativity and for the emergence of business ideas in the Cultural and Creative Industries.

The first speech at the Meeting, on the “Transfrontier Network for the Joint Creation of New Cultural Products”, is in charge of Rui Loureiro (scientific coordinator of the historical research component) and Susana Calado Martins (scientific coordinator of the connection and production component of content for the cultural and creative industries).

The program also includes communications from Maria da Graça Ventura, researcher, from Luís Azevedo Rodrigues, executive director of the Centro Ciência Viva de Lagos, from Hugo Barros, coordinator of CRIA – Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve, from João Bettencourt Bacelar, associate and creative director of Revista A Magazine PT, and Sol Martín Carretero, vice-president and treasurer of AMMA – Asociación de Museologistas y Museógrafos de Andalucía.

The Transfrontier Meeting also features a musical moment, starring João Frade (accordion) and Sara Afonso (voice).

A Exhibition of Cultural and Creative Industries Alentejo/Algarve/Andalusia (MICCAAA), organized by the partner AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve, takes place in Faro and Alcoutim, from the 23rd to the 25th of February, and has a diversified program of meetings, workshops and cultural proposals.

The Magallanes_ICC project, inspired by the 500 years of the circumnavigation journey of Fernão de Magalhães, intends to be a dynamic driver of the Creative Economy, encouraging and providing tools to the ICC, which cover activities related to art, music, literature, fashion, media, design, crafts, among others.
