Homeless have «a warm place to sleep» in the Municipal Swimming Pools of Faro

Municipal swimming pools have space to shelter this fringe of the population, which is especially vulnerable to the cold snap

Homeless people will be able to protect themselves from the cold, but also enjoy "hygiene, safety and food conditions", in a space that was created by the Chamber of Faro at the Municipal Swimming Pools and which will start operating today, Thursday, the 26th, in the evening.

The space, which aims to offer «a sheltered and warm place to sleep», is already «duly signposted and equipped, with users having access to changing rooms, bathrooms and initial capacity for 10 beds, this number can be increased if necessary. proves necessary», according to the municipality, which has been creating a structure of this kind for years, whenever a wave of cold hits Portugal.

The referencing of the users to be welcomed will be carried out by the services of Social Action and the Municipal Civil Protection Service of the Municipality, as well as partner institutions of the Autarchy in the Center for Planning and Intervention for the Homeless (NPISA) of Faro, namely MAPS (Movement to Support Social Problems) and GA.TO. (Help Group for Drug Addicts).

On the other hand, MAPS will also collaborate with the Municipality in the process of providing food support to users.
