Sara Domingos will “Embroider the Serene” at the Center for Luso-Arab Studies in Silves

At the opening, the exhibition will be presented by Professor Mostafa Zekri

The painting exhibition “Bordar o Sereno”, by Sara Domingos, opens on the 4th of February, at 17 pm, at the House of Luso-Arabic and Mediterranean Culture, in Largo da República, in Silves.

The exhibition, promoted by the Center for Luso-Arab Studies in Silves (CELAS), will be open until March 5. Admission is free.

“Bordar o Sereno” is a research and creation project in the field of visual arts that is born out of a markedly current context, the emergency in the search for protection on a global scale.

«Starting from the concept of serenity and well-being and the intimate relationship with the act of embroidery, Sara Domingos has developed a set of original pieces based on the Mediterranean and Eastern tradition of protective arts», explain the organizers.

«As a technique where the line assumes a form of both personal and collective expression, this work results from Sara's travels and her encounter with migrant women where threads and fabrics were the common language towards the unknown. Consequence of generational and cultural overlaps, often the result of mobilities and diasporas, they are a form of creative expression of the memory of the feminine», they add.

This work by Sara Domingos, the evident relationship between the Arabic-Portuguese cultures, earned her the Barzakh Prize – Ibn'Arabi 2020/21 by the Muhyiddin Ibn'Arabi Society Latina, Murcia, for her artistic career with expressive inspiration in Arabic references and Islamic.

His concern also has to do with an intercultural universe as a unifying force, based on human values and appealing to the universal of the human condition that transcends time and geographic space.

Sara Domingos, born in Lisbon, where she was born in 1973, develops an interdisciplinary artistic work that subtly touches the borderline between visual arts and graphic arts.

He has participated in several individual and collective exhibitions, national and international, namely in Spain, France and Italy. Award-winning, she is represented in several private collections and international publications.

The exhibition, at the opening act, will be presented by Professor Mostafa Zekri. The event is supported by the Silves City Council, the National Council for Refugees, the Association for Studies and Defense of the Historical-Cultural Heritage of Silves and Grafissul Lda.
