REN offers a vehicle to Loulé to reinforce the defense of the forest against fires

This vehicle will help the operational and technical teams of the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Loulé

The company REN – Redes Energéticas Nacionais offered a vehicle to the Loulé Council to reinforce the defense of the forest against fires.

For those responsible for the municipality, "this initiative will reinforce the municipal fleet of means of surveillance and protection of the forest against fires, strengthening the existing device and the response in preventive terms".

«REN is yet another important partner on the ground for us to be able to develop joint work towards the preservation of our natural heritage marked by a great diversity of habitats and rich fauna and flora, geological heritage and other resources that it is urgent to protect from the various threats, in of the scourge of fires», considers the executive led by mayor Vítor Aleixo

This vehicle will help the operational and technical teams of the Municipal Civil Protection Service of Loulé in the development of prevention tasks, planning, preparation, awareness/training, surveillance, first intervention/aftermath, in support of the “Aldeia Segura Pessoa Seguras” program and in the “Condomínio da Aldeia” project, among other actions in the area of ​​Forest Fire Defense.

For João Gaspar, responsible for the area of ​​Sustainable Networks and Easements at REN, the donation of this vehicle shows «the importance of working closely with the civil protection teams of the municipalities, even more so in a municipality where there are REN infrastructures».

«This work is not carried out only in the critical season: REN has a prevention plan articulated with the competent authorities throughout the year, such as cleaning the energy transport corridors, which increase the resilience of our infrastructures and territories where they are deployed, creating combat opportunities for Firefighters and Civil Protection Teams», he also mentions.

In 2022, in the municipality of Loulé, REN cleaned 147,70 hectares around its energy transport corridors.

Since 2009, and through a close partnership with the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection (ANEPC), the Institute for the Conservation of Nature and Forests (ICNF) and municipalities in the defense of forests against fires, REN has allocated 89 vehicles to various institutions, including fire brigades and local fire prevention teams.
