New Year Mass: Bishop asks Algarvians to be «peace builders»

During the celebration, a prayer was prayed for Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus who died on December 31

The Bishop of the Algarve asked the people of the Algarve, at the New Year mass he celebrated at the Sanctuary of the Sovereign Mother, in Loulé, to become “builders of peace”.

Second the newspaper Folha de Domingo, D. Manuel Neto Quintas, also alluding to the war in Ukraine, underlined that everyone should become “builders of peace, progress, well-being for all without exception”.

“The Pope begins by talking about the lessons that the pandemic has taught us. In fact, it was a long night of pain and suffering, in so many ways and in so many ways, that we lived through », he added.

In this mass, in which Benedict XVI, Pope Emeritus who died on December 31st, was prayed for, the Bishop of the Algarve also recalled that, this year, the World Youth Days will take place in Portugal.

«We know that this year we will have World Youth Day in the first week of August, certainly an initiative that we want to enjoy and take advantage of all the good it can do for all of us, for our young people and, in a particular way, for our Diocesan Church and for the Church in Portugal», he concluded.
