Lagos puts beach facilities to tender

In total, there are 13 support tenders for the installation and operation

Lagos City Council approved the opening of a tender for the installation and operation of 13 bathing facilities on the county's beaches.

Formally, the procedure in question constitutes an assignment of titles for the private use of the public maritime domain provided for in the Land Use Plan for the Burgau-Vilamoura Coastal Area.

For the first time, this matter is being conducted by the municipality, given that the management of sea, river and lake beaches integrated in the public water domain of the State is part of the range of competences recently transferred to the municipalities.

Luz, Porto de Mós, D. Ana and Meia Praia are the bathing areas where the installation of these supports is planned, which, as the name implies, should provide support in terms of information, surveillance, rescue and assistance to bathers.

In the discussion of the subject in a meeting of the Chamber, the importance of the previous opinions issued by the Portuguese Agency for the Environment and Captaincy of the Port of Lagos, entities that will also form part of the tender jury, was underlined, not forgetting to also highlight the fact that this new competence confers on the municipality a word in the management of areas of the territory as sensitive and crucial as the bathing areas.

The terms of the procedure will be made available shortly, after the necessary and prior publication of the respective notice in the Diário da República.
