Lagoa will have Patio das Gerações

«It is with great satisfaction that I see a vacant space become a building at the service of our population», says Luís Encarnação

The Pátio das Gerações, a multipurpose building that will have study rooms and will accommodate both students and users of the Senior University, is inaugurated this Friday, January 13, in Lagoa.

The building is located in Largo do Convento de S. José, in Lagoa, behind the school cafeteria, where the former installations of the municipal nursery were.

This courtyard, whose inauguration marks the beginning of the celebrations of the 250th anniversary of the creation of the municipality (1773-2023), «is the result of a bold architectural commitment, by the architect José Paulo Vitoriano, from the Câmara de Lagoa, taking advantage of a vacant space».

According to the municipality, this is "a building with an implantation area of 557 square meters, with an outdoor patio, a reception, a living area, two study rooms, a kitchen, a multipurpose room, which will serve to host the University Senior and their daily activities, as well as pre-school and EB1 students from Lagoa, in occasional activities».

In addition, it has an interior patio that allows access between the building and the EB1 of Lagoa, as well as the school cafeteria, thus allowing activities between different generations to be carried out.

The inauguration, at 15 pm, will be attended by the municipal executive, the director of the ESPAMOL School Group, the board of the Senior University and the senior community of the county.

It is an investment of around 476 euros «and a work that has long been desired, since there was a need to create better conditions for seniors who attend the Senior University, an institution that celebrates tomorrow, January 13 , which has been in existence for 13 years and has around 60 students».

«It is with great satisfaction that I see a vacant space become a building at the service of our population, both for seniors and for younger people. This work reaffirms Lagoa as an Educating City, as it provides the opportunity to learn throughout life, promotes informal and non-formal education, as well as intergenerationality», says Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa.
