camera of Faro “give a hand” to ACTA

Rogério Bacalhau lamented the injustice suffered by ACTA in competitions held by the Directorate-General for the Arts

The Chamber of Faro approved, this Monday, January 23, a cooperation agreement with ACTA – Companhia de Teatro do Algarve, which was outside the support of the Directorate-General for Arts.

This proposal follows what Rogério Bacalhau, mayor of Faro, had already told the Sul Informação: the municipality will support ACTA after the structure was not chosen to receive support from DG Arts, which calls into question its functioning.

According to the Chamber of Faro, «the proposal presented underlines the importance of this company’s performance, namely with regard to the promotion of citizenship and theatre, highlighting that artistic experiences are fundamental factors for training».

The cooperation agreement «is one of the ways found to provide this help and to guarantee that Faro and the whole Algarve benefit from the fact of having a professional theater company», a situation that the Mayor of Faro considers as another «factor of attractiveness of the territory».

Furthermore, the mayor Rogério Bacalhau has always stated that the autarchy would do everything to continue to support ACTA, so as to be able to guarantee the opening of Teatro Lethes, company headquarters and member of the European Route of Historic Theaters, even though it may have to make adjustments in the programming, given the decrease in financial resources.
