VRSA acquires 70 units to fill housing shortages in the municipality

An investment of almost 10 million euros. 

The Vila Real de Santo António Council formalized, this Friday, December 16, the acquisition of 70 housing units, under the collaboration agreement of the 1st Law – Program to Support Access to Housing, which will involve an investment of almost 10 million euros. 

This measure will allow, according to the municipality, the resolution of "specific and urgent" situations of housing shortage of vulnerable or precarious people due to insolvency, non-renewal of lease contract or victims of domestic violence.

This is an important achievement that reflects the efforts of this executive, the Secretary of State for Housing and the Institute for Housing and Urban Rehabilitation (IHRU) and represents a clear commitment to the people and families of Vila Real», he said. The acquisition process includes 27 dwellings assigned to the Luz do Guadiana Building, with a total value of 2.983.562 euros, 15 dwellings assigned to the Foz do Guadiana Building, with a total value of 1.822.652,90 euros and 28 dwellings assigned to the Building BelaVista, with a total value of 4.061.054,49 euros.

The 1st Right – Support Program for Access to Housing was signed and ratified by Marina Gonçalves, Secretary of State for Housing, Carlos Miguel, Secretary of State for Local Administration and Spatial Planning, on the 28th of September, with the municipality in the implementation phase of the Local Housing Strategy (ELH) in accordance with the provisions of Decree-Law No. 37/2018 of June 4th and regulated by Ordinance No. 230/2018 of August 17th.

The Local Housing Strategy of Vila Real de Santo António was approved by Organs municipal bodies, on the 29th of July, and provides for a set of housing solutions to address the identified needs.

The measure covers 2139 people integrated in 824 households, with an estimated investment of around 107 million euros, mostly in municipal promotion (87 million euros).
