Civil Protection warns of risk of flooding in the South, IPMA has already issued a yellow warning

The rain was already felt this Sunday afternoon, with eight occurrences recorded

This Sunday, December 4, the Civil Protection issued an alert for the possibility of floods and landslides, in the Algarve and Alentejo, due to heavy rain. The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) has also placed the districts of Faro and Beja under yellow warning. 

The rain already made itself felt in the afternoon of this sunday. To Sul Informação, A source from the Algarve Civil Protection Regional Command said that “eight occurrences” were recorded due to heavy rainfall.

In addition to falling trees, there were "small floods" in the municipalities of Loulé and Albufeira.

For tomorrow, Monday, the 5th, forecasts point to "periods of rain or showers, more frequent and intense in the southern region, with the possibility of thunderstorms".

The Civil Protection highlights the «conditions for the occurrence of more intense precipitation, with an accumulation of between 10 and 20 mm/1h».

The most critical period should be between 00:00 and 15:00 this Monday, in the districts of Faro and Beja, with the «possibility of extreme wind events».

For the rest, the IPMA placed the districts of Faro and Beja under yellow warning until 15 pm tomorrow, due to precipitation and thunderstorms.

The Civil Protection recommends the «unobstructing of rainwater drainage systems», as well as the adoption of «defensive driving».
