Portimão Sports Gala honors 476 athletes and coaches

Representing 21 clubs, four school groups and five universities, practitioners of 35 sports

The Municipality of Portimão once again honored 476 athletes and coaches from the municipality, representing 21 clubs, four school groups and five universities, practitioners of 35 sports, who stood out in the 2021/22 sporting season and raised the name of the municipality of to the highest level, on the 10th of December. 

The Gold Grade Award honored 13 athletes and seven coaches, while the Silver Grade Award honored 158 athletes and 27 coaches, while the Bronze Grade Award was awarded to 253 athletes and 18 coaches.

On the occasion, the Municipality of Portimão honored the Algarve Football Association (AFA) with the Sports Merit Award for its centenary and in recognition of the work carried out in favor of sport and the community, of the continuous promotion of the regular practice of sport and activity and the continued development of clubs and athletes in the Algarve, with the distinction being handed over by the vice-president of the municipality, Álvaro Bila, to the president of the AFA, Reinaldo Teixeira.

The ceremony was also attended by the municipal executive, the regional director of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth, the representative of DGEstE Algarve – General Directorate of School Establishments, the president of the Handball Association of the Algarve, the president of the Gymnastics Association of Algarve, the representative of the Algarve Judo Association and the vice-president of the Algarve Cycling Association.

 

 

Throughout the ceremony, there were also several moments of animation by two dance schools in the county, Ritmo Studio, guided by teacher Vânia Lourenço, and Dança Mais, by teacher Joana Wirachman through the Sorority Dance Crew group, which recently won this year's edition of the national competition Portugal a Dançar, whose 2023 final will be held in Portimão.

In a note, the Portimão Council explains that the Grau Ouro Award is awarded to athletes from or residing in the municipality classified among the top ten places in European and World championships and cups, obtained in official federative competitions or school sports.

The Grau Prata Award is intended for athletes representing clubs, universities or groups of schools in the municipality, and athletes from or residing in the municipality who represent entities outside the municipality, who have classified in the first three places in national championships and cups. federative officials or school sports.

Finally, the Bronze Grade Award is awarded to athletes representing clubs, universities or groups of schools in the municipality, and to athletes from or residing in the municipality representing entities from outside the municipality, who ranked first in regional championships and cups. /district official federative or school sports.
