Alte inaugurates crib made in esparto

Nativity scene can be visited between December 17th and January 8th

The village of Sarnada, in the parish of Alte, in the municipality of Loulé, inaugurates this Saturday, December 17th, the Christmas crib made in esparto grass, which can be visited until the 8th of January. 

With the aim of innovating, the artisans used the plant that has always been worked in the parish of Alte and which is part of the cultural heritage.

Since 2020, a project has been started to develop this traditional activity, with several workshops to train new artisans.

With the support of the Municipality of Loulé and the Parish Council of Alte, the old primary school in the village, abandoned for over 40 years, has been rehabilitated and will become a center for activities linked to esparto, with a workshop and a museum space. .
