Volunteer to reforest a burned area in Castro Marim

Autochthonous and fire-resilient species were chosen: carob and strawberry trees.

Castro Marim is looking for volunteers to reforest part of the area that burned last year, in the Pernadeira fire, in an initiative of the Municipality, in conjunction with the Parish Councils, Zoomarine, Algar, ARCDAA (Association of Recreation, Cultural and Sports of the Friends of Alta Mora) and GuadiMonte Cooperative.

The action, which will take place on December 3, will allow the planting of around 5.000 trees donated by Zoomarine's "Together We Protect" project, with the mission of promoting knowledge, preservation and environmental education and where include measures such as support for reforestation in the Algarve region.

Taking into account the circumstances of this reforestation and seeking to promote the resilience of the territory, indigenous and fire-resilient species were chosen: carob and strawberry trees.

«For this to be a successful initiative, we need you to join us on the ground!», says the Chamber of Castro Marim.

With mandatory registration (until the 1st of December), anyone who wants to participate «can do it with their family, company or school, so we can plant a different future together». There are approximately 19 hectares of land to plant the approximately 5000 trees, with GuadiMonte being responsible for conducting the action on the ground and ensuring care after planting, in order to enhance its survival rate.

“Involving and uniting the entire community in this reconstruction process, in the same way as it is united in fighting fires, is one of the missions of this reforestation action, differentiated and unprecedented in the territory”, concludes the municipality.
