Missão Continente helps 21 institutions in the district of Faro this Christmas

Until January 7th

Missão Continente will support 21 institutions in the district of Faro this Christmas in the fight against hunger and help citizens in an unprotected situation through the “Presentes à Mesa” campaign.

The campaign is running in Continente stores and online, through the sale of solidarity vouchers for 1 euro and 5 euros, until 8 January. The amount raised by each store will be donated 50% to the Food Emergency Network (REA) and 50% to the local institution supported by the store. In this way, customers support REA – which works on a national scale -, but also the local institution, contributing directly to their community and countrymen.

In a note sent to the newsrooms, Missão Continente highlights that recently, the report of the III Great National Sustainability Survey of the Mission and ICS-ULisboa confirmed that 1/3 of citizens feel pessimistic in relation to «access to and quality of food» and more than half (51%) have doubts about their «ability to bear domestic costs» in the coming years, which is symptomatic of the fragile situation that has arisen in the country and that is affecting more and more people.

«For 20 years, Missão Continente has sought to contribute to the well-being of the population and this Christmas, whose spirit is one of unity and communion, we all want 'Gifts at the Table', to ensure that families manage to have a table full of what is essential», explains Nádia Reis, Director of Communication and Social Responsibility at Continente.

In total, the campaign will support 328 local institutions across the country, in addition to the Food Emergency Network.

The new solidarity campaign of Missão Continente has as partners the Portuguese Football Federation, the Portuguese Association of Nutrition and the National School of Public Health.

In the Algarve, this initiative will help Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Albufeira and Alcantarilha, Refood Albufeira and Faro, ADRA – Faro, Cáritas Diocesana do Algarve, Refectório Social O Búzio, Parish Center of Mexilhoeira Grande, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Lagos, Esperança e Paz Association, Existir, Nossa Senhora de Olhão Social Welfare Center, Olhão delegation of the Portuguese Red Cross, Cooperative for the Reeducation and Support of the Exceptional Citizen of Portimão, refood Portimão, Parish Center of Quarteira, Culture and Sports Center of CM and JF Workers of São Brás de Alportel, Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Silves, Uma Porta Amiga Association, Refood Vila Real de Santo António and Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Vila Real de Santo António.
