João Galamba launches two-day debate on Urban Cleaning in Loulé

The environment, but also the economy, will be in focus

João Galamba, Secretary of State for the Environment and Energy, will kick off the IV National Urban Cleaning Meeting, which will take place tomorrow and the day after, the 3rd and 4th of November, at the Ria Park Hotel & Spa, in Vale do Garrão, in Loulé.

The member of the Government will chair tomorrow morning the welcome session of this event by the Urban Cleaning Association – Partnership for Smart and Sustainable Cities, with the support of the Municipality of Loulé, which will focus on the theme “Roadmap for Competitive and Sustainable Cities”. attractive”.

The meeting will bring together around 40 national and international speakers, who will seek to «demonstrate the importance of the state of urban cleaning as an asset of cities, taking into account that urban cleaning has an impact on the ability to attract business (from multinationals to business centers) and other activities, to attract tourism, to keep permanent and happy inhabitants», according to the Loulé Chamber.

The "financing opportunities of national legislation for Urban Cleaning and waste", the "news arising from the Single-Use Plastics (SUP) directive, namely the preparation of the national management entity", the "strategies to end abandoned waste" and good practices for raising awareness and mobilizing the population will be some of the topics to be addressed.

"The debate promises to be particularly intense around the round tables dedicated to cleaning herbs and the use of wastewater for urban cleaning", anticipates the municipality.

The Urban Cleaning Association – Partnership for Smarter and Sustainable Cities is the first national association specifically dedicated to the topic of urban cleaning. Today, it has 49 members among municipalities, parish councils, municipal companies and private companies providing services and equipment, in a total of more than 1,8 million inhabitants covered.
