The Integrated Master in Medicine at the University of Algarve already has applications open for the academic year 2023/24, which will run until the 5th of December.
This course, which includes clinical teaching from the 1st year, and is intended only for graduate students, will have 80 places in the next academic year.
The course has a duration of four years and a program based on Problem Based Learning (PBL).
«Although most of these characteristics are not innovative by themselves, given that other foreign medical schools apply them in one way or another, the integration of all of them in the same Medicine course is only verified at UAlg», says the institution of teaching in note.
Another major difference in relation to the various national medical courses is related to the selection criteria. In addition to having a degree, candidates undergo a first phase of assessment of their cognitive and linguistic abilities and one based on the assessment of human values.
Early contact with General and Family Medicine is another differentiating factor. Given that «primary health care is the cornerstone for health promotion and disease control in societies like Portugal», the UAlg course aims to «educate future doctors for a broad approach to the person and the community» .
