Albufeira organizes underwater and land cleaning action next Sunday

Initiative is open to anyone who wants to participate

An underwater and terrestrial cleaning action is scheduled for this Sunday, November 20th, between 9am and 00pm, with a meeting point at Marina de Albufeira.

The initiative, promoted in partnership with various entities and companies in the county, will have the Porto de Abrigo and surroundings of the Marina as land cleaning area, and is open to all who want to participate.

«The preservation and protection of the environment is also one of the priorities of the Municipality of Albufeira», highlights José Carlos Rolo, mayor, stressing that «these initiatives are a responsibility that must be shared by all of us, since the garbage that ends up in the oceans constitutes an environmental threat and, consequently, to the health of citizens”.

Cristiano Cabrita, deputy mayor of the municipality, also leaves a message of awareness to all citizens, reinforcing that «it is important that, as a municipality, we all participate in these actions aimed at raising awareness and preserving our marine ecosystem and that which is the former libris of the city, our beaches».

This action is carried out by the Association for the Research of the Marine Environment, Easy Divers, Marina de Albufeira, Association of Professional Fisheries of Albufeira, Association of Sport and Recreational Whaling Fishing, Maritime Police of Albufeira, Fishing Dock and Volunteer Firefighters of Albufeira,

The last similar initiative marked the International Coastal Cleanup Day and had the presence of 109 volunteers, resulting in the collection of more than two tons of rubbish from the beach and the bottom of the sea.
