João de Deus Secondary School participates in international student exchange on Reunion Island

Erasmus project involves students from France, Turkey, Romania, Italy and Portugal

Mariana Antunes, Maria Beatriz Freitas and Maria Inês Duarte, students of the 12th year of Science and Technology, accompanied by the teachers Cláudia Cardoso and Maria João Oliveira, from the João de Deus Secondary School (Faro), are participating, between 6 and 12 November, on behalf of Portugal, in an exchange program in Sainte Suzanne, on Réunion Island, an overseas department of France, located in the Indian Ocean.

The international exchange takes place within the scope of the Erasmus project “Equal Place in STEM Career and Digital World”.

During the meeting, the students involved in the project debate topics related to sustainability and climate change, as well as prepare joint works on the use of solar energy, among others.

In addition to the work taking place at the Lycée Bel Air, the program includes visits to non-fossil power plants, a sugar cane factory, as well as natural and geological reserve areas where the care taken with the its preservation.

This Erasmus project, started in 2020 and which will end next year, involves students from schools in five different countries in Europe, namely: France, Turkey, Romania, Italy and Portugal.

The purpose is to «exchange best practices in the development of the training curriculum, sharing examples of successful practices, models and strategies to overcome commonly established stereotypes for girls and young women, so that they feel motivated to engage in a rewarding and successful career. in the areas of ICT and/or STEM'.

During the exchange, STEAM project activities have been implemented, especially in the area of ​​climate change, and gender equality issues have been discussed.
