Superbikes: Driver transferred from heli to hospital, race interrupted at Autodromo

Administration of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve confirmed that the pilot is already hospitalized in Faro, being «in the operating room»

French pilot Victor Steeman was transferred by helicopter to Hospital de Faro, after having suffered an accident in the SuperSport300 race, of the Motorcycling World Championship, which was taking place at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão. The test was interrupted. 

This accident also involved Gonzalez Perez (Spain), both in Kawasaki Ninja 400.

Contacted by Sul Informação, the administration of the Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Algarve confirmed that the pilot is already hospitalized in Faro, being «in the operating room».

According to the organizers of the event, Victor Steeman suffered "polytraumas and head injuries".

This race, which was led by Dirk Geiger (Germany), will only resume after the SuperSport race, at the end of the day.

The accident also led to the postponement of the first Superbike race, which was scheduled to start at 14:00.

This weekend, the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve will host the ninth of 12 rounds of the Motorcycling World Championship, the second held this year in Portugal, which includes the Superbike, SuperSport and SuperSport300 categories.
