The work is by the plastic artists Maria Nekh and Malte Oberquelle, both residing in Vila do Bispo.

The initiative was taken by the City Council, with production by Avonde – Associação Cultural.

In the words of the authors themselves, «for this mural, our objective was to create a celebratory piece of the Bird Watching Festival that would bring some color and joy to the Garden of Sagres».

«During the research, we were amazed at the number of types of birds and the variety of shapes and colors that can be observed in this region, which immediately made us very interested and motivated so that people who saw the mural would also have this feeling. Starting from here, we discussed what would be the best way to translate this graphically and it became clear that we would have many birds, very diverse and colorful», they add.

«We wanted to create something that could be read from afar and up close, so we chose, on one side of the surface of the structure, to make portraits of birds in profile, which seem to be in a row and interacting with each other, and on the other, birds of different sizes, some so big that only a small part of their body can be seen, mixed with spots of color that are their surroundings», they conclude.
