Pilar del Rio talks about Saramago and gives free class in Querença

The Querença meeting is part of the celebrations of the centenary of the birth of José Saramago (1922-2022)

Pilar del Rio, former partner of José Saramago, will be on Saturday, October 29, in Querença, where, in addition to a free class, she will talk about the Portuguese writer who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1998.

Pilar's free class, on Human Duties, is scheduled for 16:30 pm, in the outdoor auditorium next to the Water Museum Pole, after a session, at 15:30 pm, promoted by Patrícia Amaral, where some of the almost mythical fables of the Macondes will be told , collected and commented by Professor Viegas Guerreiro.

A two-voice conversation follows: “Diálogos José Saramago”, by Andreia Fidalgo, professor at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences at the University of Algarve, and Pilar del Rio, president of the José Saramago Foundation.

In this way, the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro Foundation (FMVG) says that it «promotes another Free Class, in the spirit of Free General Studies – free non-formal education created in 1989 by Manuel Viegas Guerreiro, Agostinho da Silva and Alexandre Lafayette».

Now retired, «Manuel Viegas Guerreiro organized a series of courses, conferences and classes with the biggest names in national science. Knowledge transfer took place anywhere in the country, with no space for financial transactions», recalls FMVG.

Next Saturday, the FMVG program foresees, at 18:00 pm, the signing of an institutional cooperation protocol between the Manuel Viegas Guerreiro and José Saramago Foundations.

The event will take place at the A Nossa Casa Comum children's library and the Saramago Exhibition, which reflects the work carried out throughout this year by the institutions that make up the Loulé Municipality Library Network, mostly school libraries that energized Saramago together of the youngest.

The exhibition in Querença is the preview of the exhibition that will open on November 3, at the Loulé Municipal Library Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.

Finally, at 19 pm, “Waltz for an Andalusian” gives its name to the concert that the Orquestra de Jazz do Algarve prepared for this day. The theme was composed by Hugo Alves, after Saramago received the prize for Predilect Son of Andalusia, awarded by the Andalusian parliament in 00. Ana Rita Inácio.
